New Terminal Schwedenkai

Another architectural landmark for Kiel is being built at the Schwedenkai and it will be of great economic significance. The winning architectural design for the new Schwedenkai Terminal is impressive because of its artistic filigreen form and in the exemplary manner in which it combines functional utilisation. Architects 'KSP Engel und Zimmermann' in Brunswick have won a competition launched by the Port of Kiel to seek the best design for a new passenger terminal on the port's Schwedenkai.
 

The new building is to be erected south of the existing Schwedenkai and in alignment with the 'Hafenstraße' and the 'Holstenbrücke', thus optically opening up the Kiel City Centre to the waters of the Bay of Kiel.
Stena Line's biggest ferry ships, in service between Kiel and Gothenburg, already berth at the Schwedenkai. During the summer season the terminal also serves passengers of the cruise ships which are now berthing at the Bollhörnkai-Nord in ever increasing numbers.   The new Schwedenkai will further increase our ability to compete in ferry traffic to West Sweden as well as in the cruise shipping sector.     The building unites services for passengers and cargo on its lower levels with administrative functions on the office levels above. It has been tailor-made exactly to the needs both of the port and the shipping company.
