Safety & Security
The safety of ferry and cruise ship passengers has always been the top priority for the Port
of Kiel. Kiel’s port facilities are governed by security measures under the ISPS
Code and are certified accordingly by the authorities.
The security measures include, among other things:
- secure terminals and access points
- fenced-in terminal areas
- illuminated berths and terminals
- surveillance of berths and terminals
- monitoring of water and land areas
- access and security checks of vehicles and people
- hand luggage and baggage checks
- round-the-clock patrols by trained security officers
- emergency and evacuation plans and systems
- DIN EN ISO 9001-certified security personnel
Security measures are enforced with the support of the authorities and those bodies whose responsibilities include the Port of Kiel.
